About the Manion Lecture

The Manion Lecture, the School's marquee event, aims to broaden public servants' horizons, challenge orthodoxies, encourage thoughtful debate on key issues and provide an opportunity to network. It addresses a relevant and cutting edge public management or public policy issue that affects the professional roles and responsibilities of public servants, which allows the development of skills and leadership in order to maximize performance.

The Lecture is named in honour of the late John Lawrence Manion who was the first Principal of the Canadian Centre for Management Development (CCMD), the forerunner of the Canada School of Public Service. Mr. Manion helped lay the foundation for the School, as it is known today. The 2011 Manion Lecture was dedicated to his memory. Learn more about the Manion Lecture.
