  • understanding what it means to be a manager
  • leading in Canada's public service
  • communicating effectively
  • managing team performance
  • managing employee performance

This course is open to all learners at all levels. It is also a prerequisite for the Manager Development Program (Virtual Edition) and serves as Phase 1 of the Manager Development Program. This program supports new managers by helping them understand the roles, accountabilities and expectations placed upon managers in the federal public service.

The Manager Development Program comprises four phases. To participate, you must first be identified by your organization, then assigned the certification by your Required Training Coordinator or Learning Coordinator. You can then contact the School's Client Contact Centre to register. For participants who are registered in the program, Phase 1 is now optional.

Anyone interested in registering for Phase 1 should have some supervisory experience so that they can draw on real-life examples for the online activities.
