Organization and classification includes classifying job positions and responsibilities, writing work descriptions, and providing expert advice on the best organizational structures for achieving an organization's objectives. This course (Part 1B) provides a comprehensive overview of organization and classification rules and the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders. Participants will have the opportunity to write, critique and evaluate work descriptions from various occupational groups.
This course is part of a suite of mandatory courses for public servants working and specializing in classification. The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's Classification Program for the core public administration outlines the learning curriculum and accreditation program required under the Classification Policy Suite for classification oversight specialists.
Accreditation in classification is required to obtain a classification sub-delegation and be authorized to make classification decisions in a department. Classification decisions have financial implications and must be made in the public interest to ensure that government funds are spent wisely.
