Leadership and Collaboration—the Olympic Experience

The resounding success of the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010 was an accomplishment Canada took great pride in. It was also the culmination of a mammoth logistical coordination exercise that brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders, partners and levels of government.

Then Deputy Minister of Heritage Canada, Judith LaRocque chaired the Deputy Ministers and Heads of Agency Committee that guided the preparations and provided a "whole of government" approach. How to Give and Receive a Two-Minute Briefing

This lecture presents an approach to briefing that allows executives to confidently and effectively summarize an issue in two minutes or less. It will also provide insight into how senior managers are viewed, how their employees try to respond to their perceived needs and preferences and the negative communications patterns they can fall into. Finally, the lecture will sketch out how a leader's reception of a two-minute briefing can contribute to successful communication, deliberation and decision making.

Based on the School's highly popular half-day course on this topic and led by Royal Orr, one of the faculty members who developed the two-minute briefing approach, this session offers executives tips and strategies for conserving their most valuable resource—time.

Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada: Their Lean Journey
