Douglas Elmendorf, Dean of Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Don K. Price Professor of Public Policy

Douglas W. Elmendorf is an American economist whose tenure as dean and Don K. Price Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School began in January 2016. Previously, he had been a visiting fellow at Brookings after serving as the director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) from January 2009 to March 2015. Before CBO, he had spent 2 years at Brookings, where he was a senior fellow, the Edward M. Bernstein Scholar, and director of the Hamilton Project.

Dr. Elmendorf's career has included positions as assistant professor at Harvard University, principal analyst at CBO, senior economist at the White House's Council of Economic Advisers, deputy assistant secretary for economic policy at the Treasury Department and assistant director of the Division of Research and Statistics at the Federal Reserve Board. His experience ranges from budget policy, macroeconomics (effects of fiscal policy and analysis and forecasting) and financial markets to health care issues, Social Security, income security programs, and much more. He earned his PhD and master's in economics from Harvard University, where he was a National Science Foundation graduate fellow, and his bachelor's summa cum laude from Princeton University.
