Virtual Town Hall on Accessibility: Programs and Services

Since the launch of Nothing Without Us, the Accessibility Strategy for the Public Service, work has been underway to equip public servants to design and deliver accessible programs and services. Persons with disabilities report that they do not receive equal quality of service and that there are numerous barriers to communication, including documents in formats that are not accessible, lack of sign language interpretation, and frequent misunderstanding of those who have difficulty speaking or who use a communication device. Persons with disabilities also report that service staff do not always know how to serve them, and that they would like more opportunities to report service issues and suggest improvements.

This event provides an opportunity to hear from leaders in service delivery to Canadians about how to apply an accessibility lens to the design and delivery of programs and services. Our guest speakers will discuss how they improved the accessibility of their programs and services over time and in the context of COVID-19, share lessons learned and best practices, and highlight unique challenges that need attention, especially vis-à-vis improving reporting issues and providing input. A live Q&A will follow the panel discussion.
