[00:00:00 The text “Unlocking the Potential of Cloud – Security and IOT – Data Security” appears onscreen.]

[00:00:07 The screen fades to Philippe Couroux in a video chat panel.]

PHILIPPE COUROUX (Manager, Science Solutions, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Gestionnaire, Solutions scientifiques, Agriculture et agroalimentaire Canada): NRC was hacked a few years ago and they had to implement a segregated network, and we've been talking about the segregation of network and the IOT device.

And for people who are not clear on what IOT devices are, probably everyone on this panel and also were registered to this event already have some. It's all of the connected devices that you have at home.

But we do have a lot of connected devices in science that cannot be connected to the corporate network because of security. They cannot be hooked up to this network and expose it to breaches of security.

Now, if we can have the connected devices maybe to control the temperature and deliver nutrients or moisture to plants, if we're talking about vertical agriculture in the future and take over all of the unused federal buildings in the Government of Canada and turn them into maybe those vertical farms.

But anyways, if we can have the connectivity in place and have the scientists have access directly, in real time, to their data or to control devices or to capture any information that may be in phenomics and all of the olmec science, I think that that's where the trend that we're trying to just push for in order for agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and all of the other science-based departments to stay on top of whatever is being done in science.

I think that's the challenge that we're facing right now.
