LinkedIn profile

Murray Nicol joined the School's faculty in May 2024, bringing more than 20 years of experience in leadership development, storytelling and digital capacity building.

Prior to joining the School, Murray spent five years at the Royal Canadian Mint where he led the organization's employee communications function and strategic communications initiatives. He helped the organization navigate the constantly shifting landscape caused by the COVID-19 pandemic by ensuring employees received concise, relevant and engaging content when and where they needed it.

Before moving to the National Capital Region in 2017, Murray spent three years working overseas with the World Economic Forum. As a member of the leadership team entrusted with guiding a global network of young change makers, he developed his skills in facilitating important learning sessions both virtually and in person. He also created a social media video strategy that led to exponential growth in viewership and engagement.

Having spent the first decade of his career as a director of documentaries, Murray firmly believes in the power of combining a strong narrative with an engaging delivery to reach audiences and leave them with a deep sense of understanding of the topic at hand. He brings that approach to helping others tell stories of their own.

Through his varied career and personal experiences, Murray has learned that we all have the power to navigate complex systems and situations through empathy, collaboration and self-awareness.

Murray is a strong believer in lifelong learning, and continues to seek opportunities for personal and professional growth. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in the School's mission of establishing a culture of learning within the public service.
